Broken Capillaries (Telangiectasia’s)

vein3Appear as spidery, red capillaries on the surface of the face appearing around the nose and cheek areas on the face and legs. Most broken capillaries are induced by prolonged sun and heat exposure. Excess alcohol consumption can result in broken capillaries due to alcohol’s effects on blood vessels. Nothing can get rid of them cosmetically through skin care products, but there are things you can do to keep them from getting worse. Steaming the skin, including saunas, hot tub and hot showers, excessively blowing your nose, and prolonged sun and heat exposure can make them more apparent and cause more to appear. The gentler you are with your skin, the less noticeable they will appear and will help prevent additional broken capillaries. IPL treatments are an excellent way to reduce, control or rid your skin of broken capillaries.

Rosacea

Common side effect of Rosacea are Redness, Broken Capillaries and Acne like Papules. The dilation of facial blood vessels produces the redness that is the hallmark of rosacea. Leakage of fluid causes inflammation. Rosacea trigger factors include most things that make the patient blush, such as hot or spicy foods, exercise, heat or cold, hot beverages, alcohol, or stress. Rosacea can also be triggered by hormonal components. Flushing is more likely to occur in women as they approach menopause. Since total avoidance of trigger factors are impossible, rosacea patients should reduce triggering activities until their symptoms are under control. Over time, scarring and permanent skin changes can occur.

Rosacea symptoms consist of three components

  • Erythema (Redness) is usually the first sign of rosacea. At first it is intermittent and then becomes more persistent, affecting the cheeks, nose and central forehead.
  • Telangiectasias (Broken Capillaries) is usually the next symptom of rosacea. These gradually become more prominent.
  • Papules and pustules (Pimples and Whiteheads).

A classic diagnosis has all three symptoms, but patients may only exhibit one or two of the above symptoms during the early stages of the disorder.
