Breast Lift with Implants San Diego, CA
A woman’s breasts go through many changes throughout her life. Gravity, natural aging, pregnancy, weight fluctuations, and genetics all affect how your breasts change over the years. Many women struggle with volume loss and drooping breasts and long for a more youthful bust. Breast augmentation mastopexy is a combination procedure that places breast implants in breasts during breast lift surgery (mastopexy). Breast lift elevates and tightens the tissues higher on the chest wall but won’t increase breast size. Adding implants to your breast lift offers fuller, firmer, and perkier breasts.
Brian Reagan, M.D., F.A.C.S., offers breast lift with implants at True Beauty Aesthetic Surgery and Medicine in La Jolla. Dr. Reagan is a board-certified plastic surgeon renowned for his surgical skills and expertise. He was named among the Best Plastic Surgeons in San Diego by his peers in San Diego Magazine, Best Plastic Surgeons in La Jolla by La Jolla Light Newspaper, and Top Plastic Surgeon West and Top Aesthetic Doctor in 2020.
Benefits of Breast Lift with Implants
Breast augmentation mastopexy addresses sagging breasts (ptosis) and volume loss or naturally small breasts in one procedure. This combination is a popular choice for women, especially after childbearing and aging have created a drooping, deflated breast appearance. The procedure has a low revision rate (about 4% after two years) and provides reliable results without increasing risks.
Breast lift with implants offers these advantages:
- Remove excess skin tissue
- Tighten and elevate breast position on the chest
- Reduce and relocate the nipple-areolar complex
- Enhance breast fullness with saline or silicone breast implants
- Improve breast projection
- Increase breast firmness for a smoother, younger look and feel
- Correct breast asymmetry (one breast may droop more than the other)
Am I a Candidate for Breast Augmentation Mastopexy?
Most women with small breasts or volume loss and drooping breasts can qualify for breast lift with implants. However, you must be in good physical health and at a stable weight because weight fluctuations can affect augmentation mastopexy results. It’s best to wait until you have finished growing your family and have no plans for another pregnancy. You should have realistic expectations for your results and the recovery process.
Understand that most women can undergo a single-stage procedure, but others may require two separate breast surgeries for the best results, such as those wanting larger implants.
Breast Lift with Breast Implants Procedure
Dr. Reagan performs breast augmentation mastopexy under general anesthesia or IV sedation. The incision pattern depends on the degree of breast ptosis and implant type and style. Correcting drooping breasts may require donut-like circular incisions around the areolas for minimal correction or additional incisions that extend down to the breast crease (lollipop lift) and along the inframammary fold (anchor or inverted T lift) for more severe sagging. These incisions are concealed in the dark pigment of the areolas and underneath the breast, and bras and swimwear hide the vertical line from the areolas.
After our plastic surgeon makes the appropriate incisions, he will lift and reshape the glandular tissue and may reduce and reposition the nipples and areolas higher on the chest. Breast implants are placed below the breast tissue (subglandular) or under the pectoralis muscle (submuscular). Dr. Reagan will discuss your implant options and help you determine the right style, size, and shape for your needs.
The incisions are closed after the tissues are tightened and elevated, and the implants are in position.
Recovery After Breast Lift with Implants
You may have surgical drains during the first few days of recovery and must wear a compression bra for several weeks after breast surgery. Follow your post-op instructions from Dr. Reagan and wear your compression bra as directed. Make sure you take medications as prescribed to avoid unnecessary discomfort and limit your activities to avoid strenuous exercise and movement. Dr. Reagan recommends patients take at least one week off work.
You will have some swelling and bruising for a few days, often resolving after the first week. Activity restrictions typically last four to six weeks after surgery to allow your breast tissues to heal before you put too much pressure on the area.
Your breasts will appear larger and higher on your chest immediately after surgery, with results that improve for several months as the swelling goes away. Scarring may take up to one year to lighten and fade.
