Over time, the body’s supply of collagen and elastin — two proteins responsible for the skin’s firm and elastic quality — dwindle. This causes the skin to loosen and sag, an aesthetic problem that can worsen as one gets older or after losing a large amount of weight. On the upper arms, hanging, unsightly skin is sometimes referred to as “bat wings.”
If you’re tired of hiding bat wings under long-sleeved shirts and jackets, Dr. Brian Reagan offers a long-lasting solution in arm lift. Read more about the procedure in this blog post.
What Arm Lift Accomplishes
Arm lift is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess skin and tissue to create a flatter and smoother arm contour. During the procedure, an incision is made along the inside of the upper arm. The length of the incision depends on the degree of correction needed. Once the incision is made, excess tissue and skin are trimmed. The remaining tissues are re-sculpted for the desired appearance, and the overlying skin is carefully re-draped for a tighter and smoother appearance.
In some cases, liposuction can be performed during arm lift to further improve the arm’s contour. Liposuction removes small pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise.
Can Arm Lift Improve Your Quality of Life?
Following arm lift, the arms are slimmer and more attractive overall. Having sculpted and toned arms can have a dramatic effect on your self-confidence. Your feelings of embarrassment will disappear and you will no longer feel ashamed when exposing your arms or inclined to hide them under jackets and long-sleeved shirts. Without heavy, excess skin and tissues, your arms will feel lighter. This increase in mobility can make exercise more comfortable and alleviate physical discomfort caused by folds of skin rubbing against each other or clothing. It is not uncommon for many of Dr. Reagan’s patients to say that their quality of life improves following arm lift.
Heavy, saggy arms are a burden you don’t have to continue to live with. Dr. Reagan will be happy to meet with you and explore your cosmetic options. He can examine your arms and discuss your aesthetic goals in detail to determine the best treatment option.
